Project Overview: The Area of Banks Avenue North of 21st Street is located in a combined sewer district known as district 2. Modeling of the combined sewer in this area indicates susceptibility to surcharging (overloading of the sewer beyond its design capacity) during wet weather events. Residents connected to these combined sewer mains have reported basement backups in the past during wet weather events. Projects constructed to separate storm infrastructure in combined sewer districts has been proven effective at reducing water-in-basement issues throughout the city in previous years. The intention of the project is to dimnish flooding risk for the area along Banks Avenue North of 21st Street. The project consists of constructing 224 lineal feet of 12-inch Reinforced Concrete Pipe (RCP) storm sewer, removal of 41 lineal feet of Vitrified Clay Pipe (VCP) combined sewer, removal of storm inlets, installing sanitary manholes in alley entrances, placement of curb and gutter for one half block along Banks Avenue, and resurfacing of bituminous roadway along Banks Avenue and alley ways.
