Location: Alley east of Hammond Avenue, between North 25th Street and North 24th Street.
The existing sanitary sewer within the south half of this alley is a 15-inch vitrified clay pipe (VCP), which connects to a manhole located roughly halfway through the alley. Televising of this sanitary sewer pipe revealed areas of significant defects including cracks, fractures, and deformation, which could result in complete pipe failure or unreliable sewer service. To maintain reliable sewer service, the Environmental Services Division is implementing a plan to replace approximately 150 feet of this damaged sewer with 18-inch polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe. The existing manhole within the alley will be removed and a new manhole will be installed on the south end of this alley near North 25th Street. Private sewer service laterals connected to this sewer main will be reconnected with new fittings during construction. The south half of the alley will undergo a full reconstruction and will be finished with new asphalt.
Sewer service will be temporarily interrupted during the project as private lateral connections are reestablished to the new sewer main. Advanced notice will be given to residents who will experience this interruption.
