Children's Memorial Garden
Mission
Our mission is to create a garden of hope, healing, and peace for families and friends that have experienced the tragic loss of a child. We hope that all families and friends will feel welcome to visit this garden and remember their child's life.
We hope that by having a quiet place to reflect, families and friends can form new relationships by bonding together with other families that have suffered a similar tragedy. This garden will celebrate the lives of these beautiful children, honor the love of their families and friends, and establish a peaceful sanctuary for all.
The Children’s Memorial Garden is located on Second Point (Girl Scout Point) in Billings Park, Superior, Wisconsin.
History
The Children's Memorial Garden was developed by community members taking part in UW-Superior's Leadership Superior-Douglas County program in 2015. After several years of dedicated planning and fundraising, the garden was officially planted in 2018. Additions were made to the planting in 2019 and in 2021 the stone walkway was added. July 21, 2022 the garden was officially dedicated.
Brick Sponsorships
Sponsored Bricks will be added to the stone walkway and contain a message in memory for or of a child who has passed away. All messages should be inspirational and consistent with the mission of the Children's Memorial Garden and should provide comfort and support to grieving families. Installation of new bricks will take place each year in June. Applications must be submitted by December 1 in order to be planted the following June. To sponsor a brick(s), please fill out the Brick Sponsorship Form and return it with payment to the City of Superior Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department.
